Starting a Business in Dubai: How Two Phone Calls Could Change Everything

Building a business in Dubai can be an exciting journey, but it doesn't always follow a straightforward path. There are opportunities to pursue, relationships to develop and plenty of questions to answer along the way. Sometimes, just when you're wondering whether things are moving in the right direction, something unexpected happens.

Building a business in Dubai can be an exciting journey, but it doesn’t always follow a straightforward path. There are opportunities to pursue, relationships to develop and plenty of questions to answer along the way. Sometimes, just when you’re wondering whether things are moving in the right direction, something unexpected happens.

In this episode of The Dubai Diaries, I share an update on the progress of my consultancy business, two meetings with property developers and two phone calls that could have a significant impact on what happens next.

The Reality of Starting a Business in Dubai

Starting a business from scratch brings a familiar set of challenges. Is the idea right? Are you investing your time in the right opportunities? How do you turn promising conversations into paying clients?

These are questions many entrepreneurs will recognise, regardless of where they’re based.

Dubai offers opportunities for businesses and consultants looking to build relationships and establish themselves in the market. But opportunity alone doesn’t guarantee success. You still need to understand your customers, demonstrate your value and build relationships that develop into meaningful business.

For a consultancy, that process is particularly important. Trust takes time to establish, and potential clients need to understand how your experience and expertise can help them achieve their objectives.

Building Relationships in Dubai’s Property Sector

Property is a competitive industry, and developing relationships with the right people can open up new possibilities.

Meeting property developers is an important part of my journey as I work to move the consultancy business forward. These conversations create opportunities to understand the challenges developers face, explore potential areas of collaboration and consider where my experience might add value.

Of course, a good meeting doesn’t automatically lead to a client. The real challenge is turning an initial conversation into a relationship that delivers something worthwhile for both parties.

That takes persistence, commercial awareness and a clear understanding of what you’re offering.

When the Unexpected Happens

The focus of this episode is on two phone calls that could change the direction of my business and my future in Dubai.

I’m not going to give away the outcome here. What I can say is that these moments capture something important about entrepreneurship: you can plan, prepare and work towards a particular goal, but you also have to be ready to adapt when circumstances change.

Sometimes, an opportunity arrives when you least expect it. The challenge is recognising its potential and deciding what to do next.
